Questions and Answers about KSA

Q: Who is eligible to attend?
A:KIPP Summit Academy (KSA) is a FREE public charter school open to any and all students regardless of ability. Preference will be given to students currently enrolled as 4th graders in the San Lorenzo Unified School District. KIPP Summit Academy does not consider grades or test scores. In fact, KSA is an excellent option for students who are below grade level and wish to get on a college preparatory track. Students living outside the SLZUSD may apply but will only be admitted if vacancies exist once San Lorenzo students are served. Students are only admitted beyond 5th grade if there are vacancies in an upper grade. Under exceptional circumstances, KSA will enroll 6th graders willing to enroll at KSA as 5th graders.

Q: What grades are served by KIPP Summit Academy?
A: Our school serves approximately 320 5th-8th grade students.

Q: What happens if more than 80 to 90 students want to attend KSA?
A: By California law, KIPP Summit Academy must hold a lottery if more students wish to enroll than we can accommodate. If a lottery is necessary, students from San Lorenzo will receive preference. KIPP Summit Academy will hold our admission lottery in April. All students who have submitted applications will receive notice of admission in May.

Q: How many students will there be in each classroom?
A: Students are placed in 3 mixed-ability homeroom groups of 26 to 30 students each (the average class size in SLZUSD is roughly 30). Each homeroom will move together as a unit named after a college as they travel to their classes throughout the day.
